A Reporter Series Business Awards winner has bagged himself another impressive title for his ambition and confidence with his chain of mobile phone shops.

Dewsbury businessman and O2 franchisee Zak Patel was named Best Franchisee at the Mobile Industry Awards at the Brewery in central London.

Zak, who also won our Entrepreneur of the Year award 2012, is the founder and director of the Telefónica O2 Franchise Talk Direct Leeds Limited and currently runs 12 shops across Yorkshire, including the Dewsbury store.

The 40-year-old has steadily enlarged his business over the last three years, his most recent achievements being opening a new store at Castleford junction 32 last year and expanding his existing shops in Dewsbury and Leeds Merrion Centre.

The judging panel was impressed with Zak’s ability to make his company’s voice heard in the local community.

One judge said: “Talk Direct clearly has great ambition. Opening a flagship store in Dewsbury was a bold move, and it is good to see the local community benefiting from free mobile training given by the store guru.”

The event was attended by over 400 leaders from across the mobile industry.

Mr Patel said: “What an amazing achievement for my company and everyone associated with it.

“To be recognised by the mobile industry as Franchisee of the Year is a proud and momentous occasion.

He added:“I would like to say a very big thank you to Telefónica O2 for giving me the opportunity and having the belief in my ability.”
