A wool manufacturer has submitted plans for a system to tackle unpleasant smells around its factory.

Thomas Chadwick and Sons is the source of the strong eggy smell which sometimes hangs around Dewsbury’s retail park.

But the company, owned by Standard Wool, wants to tackle the problem head on.

It is seeking permission to install a sulphus odour abatement system at its Eastfield Mills site.

The system uses biological matter to remove hydrogen sulphide, the chemical responsible for the bad smell.

A 10m tall fibreglass container would be installed outside the factory with a duct connecting processing lines to the treatment unit via a suction fan.

A decision on the application will be taken by planning officers.
