Earlsheaton water supply problems force school closure

A primary school was forced to close for part of the day after losing its water supply.

Earlsheaton Infant School in Commercial Street was closed until 10.30am yesterday because it had no water.

The supply problems were linked to a burst pipe under a three-lane section of Wakefield Road.

Yorkshire Water was working in Earlsheaton yesterday to restore supplies to affected properties, including eight homes in High Road.

Homeowners had first reported no supplies or low pressure on Tuesday evening.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Water apologised for any disruption during work to restore supplies.

The affected homes had water supplies restored by 2.30pm through the use of overland pipes and will be reconnected to the mains today.

Engineers will also add a new valve to stop any further leaks until more extensive repairs can be carried out in the new year.
