Burglars broke into an elderly woman’s home and stole her engagement and wedding rings.

The two suspects entered her house on Durkar Low Lane at around 12.35pm on Bank Holiday Monday, whilst the 87-year-old victim was outside.

They took her engagement ring, a gold watch, gold wedding ring and gold necklace before escaping on a red and white moped.

Detective Inspector Tim Hunt, of Wakefield District CID, said: “This was a distressing incident for this elderly lady and the jewellery stolen had significant sentimental and financial value.

“I would like to appeal to members of the public who were in the area on the day, saw these two suspects or have any information to help with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
