A DISUSED school building has been destroyed by fire.
More than 100 firefighters battled the ferocious blaze in the three storey block at Yorkshire Martyrs Catholic College, Tong.
Emergency services were called at about 2am this morning and fought to contain the fire. It was eventually put out by noon today.
Wakefield station manager David Teggart said the cause of the fire was unknown but police and fire officers were investigating.
The school, which sits on the Birkenshaw border, has been closed since last summer. See this week’s Spenborough Guardian for more on this story.
