DEWSBURY AND DISTRICT RAMBLERS - On Saturday, nine walkers set off from Holme Village and did an 11 mile walk, taking in Ramsden reservoir and Upperthong, before passing Brownhill reservoir and heading back to the start of the walk. PROBUS CLUB - At last Thursday’s meeting president Ken Wright reported the sad loss of one of the long serving members, Ken Duggleby, who died suddenly at his home in Bennett Lane. Mr Duggleby, who was 83, had been a member of Probus for 22 years. Members observed a minute silence. The speaker was Peter Wrigley who described life where water was scarce in Papua New Guinea,where he taught for a number of years. Past president, Douglas Hird gave a vote of thanks. Reports were given by treasurer Colin Spurr and registrar Tommy Lynn. Next meeting: May 23, AGM.

SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL DEWSBURY - Sue Green, a fundraiser for British Heart Foundation ‘mending broken hearts appeal’, the chosen charity of the our new president Janet Town, spoke at the first meeting of the new year. Sue gave an insight into the various means of raising funds for this charity, which aims to raise £50m for research into every aspect of heart connected diseases. ELIM CHURCH - On Sunday Pastor Sue Nicholls spoke about God choosing the right man for the job, as in the case of the prophet Samuel choosing the next King, David. In light of Pastor Hudson leaving us soon, she emphasized that we need a new pastor full of the Holy Spirit and word of God to lead us in the future.
