SCHOOL took on a whole new look for some Dewsbury youngsters.
Pupils at Westborough High were off timetable to take part in a series of special activity sessions.
A 1950s disco, basketball challenge and a food cook-off were just some of the classes on offer in a pioneering project.
Each year has been given a theme – 1950s for year seven, culminating in a disco where the children wore Fifties fashions, sustainability for year eight, GCSE taster sessions for year nine – with food technology and a cook-off in the spotlight, life skills for year 10. For this, 25 different organisations, including Dewsbury Rams, the fire service and ambulance staff, went into school. Fencing and Thai boxing were also on the agenda.
The week ended with a basketball tournament in which police, the Rams and others fielded teams against the WHS year 10 side. School spokesman Gayna Goalby said: "This is the first time we have tried this and we hope it could be an annual event.
"We have done odd days of activities in the past but decided to turn it into a big, whole-school thing.
"Everything has gone well and we have been really busy."
