A DAREDEVIL vicar plans to whizz down a 130-foot zip slide to raise funds for a state-of-the-art heating system for his church.
The Rev Paul Maybury, vicar of Gawthorpe and Ossett, will scale part of the 226ft tower of Holy Trinity Church in Ossett on May 24 and slide down a wire at speeds of up to 40mph.

He hopes to raise at least £1,000 towards the £200,000 needed to ins
tall the geothermal heating system, which will draw natural heat from underground and pipe it around the church.

The Make It Hot campaign has raised £10,000 through donations from congregation members

and local businesses but this is the most ambitious event yet.

Julie Shaw, church development coordinator, said: "It is a massive event. We are very excited that we are able offer such an amazing activity. We are encouraging people who want to take part to get in touch and there will be people coming from various places around the country."

Anyone interested in taking part needs a deposit of £100 in sponsorship and should phone Julie Shaw on 01924 263497 to register. Alternatively you can sponsor Rev Maybury by visiting www.justgiving.com/paulmaybury1.
