THE president of a women's group handed over more than £3,000 to her chosen charity before passing on the chain of office.
Kate Currie stood down as head of the Soroptimist International of Dewsbury at the annual meeting, when she also gave TB Alert £3,270.

The money was raised through various events during the year, with the most successful being a recent fashion show at Thornhill Parish Church, which generated more than £1,000.

The group has also donated money to Macmillan Cancer Support, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Breast Cancer Care and Yorkshire Flood Relief.

Kate also instigated a project with Dewsbury and District Hospital's Chadwick Clinic aimed at cutting the number of cases of chlamydia, which led to the Dewsbury club being highly commended by Soroptimist International of Yorkshire.

The new president is Linda Davis.
