STONES representing lives lost under the Nazi regime were placed on a war memorial during a special service in Dewsbury.
The Holocaust Memorial Day service at Longcauseway Garden of Remembrance marked the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the largest Nazi concentration camp.

Among those reading poems and prayers were the Rev Canon Kevin Partington and Norma Fineburg, whose parents escaped Germany on one of the last trains out of Berlin.

A minute's silence was also held in memory of those who died during the Holocaust and more recent genocides.

Last Friday's service was organised by the office of Dewsbury and Mirfield MP Shahid Malik, a patron of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.
