THE language, culture and history of France was studied during a special week at Carlton Junior and Infant School.
All members of the school took part in the French week, which saw children learning French dancing with Yannick Minvielle and sitting down to a traditional French breakfast of pain au chocolat.

Each class from the school studied a different French artist and in PE lessons pupils enjoyed a few games of petanque.

As part of the week, children also looked at famous French landmarks, studied the geography of France and were lucky enough to meet a native French speaker who told them all about her life growing up in the country.

All year groups took part in competitions relating to France, wore badges with the French spelling of their name on and answered the register in France.

At lunchtime the canteen staff delivered a menu of traditional French dishes complete with cakes iced in red, white and blue and served by kitchen staff who dressed up.

Headteacher Lynn Mortimer said: "It really was a fantastic week and such a pleasure to be here. Everyone played their part. All the children really enjoyed the activities and I'm sure they learned a lot about France and now have a better understanding of the language."

Mrs Mortimer said she would like to thank all the staff for all their hard work during the week.
