DEWSBURY MP Shahid Malik has agreed to drop his libel case against The Press newspaper after agreeing an out-of-court settlement.
The MP had sued The Press newspaper's publishers NewsPost Ltd, its former editor Danny Lockwood and former councillor Jonathan Scott over allegations made after the May 2006 local elections.

A jury could not reach a verdict at a trial in London's High Court in November and a retrial date had been set - but court costs were already estimated at about £300,000.

The details of the new out-of-court settlement have not yet been made public.
