Dewsbury Reporter named best weekly paper in Yorkshire!

THE Dewsbury Reporter has been named the weekly Yorkshire Newspaper of the Year at the Yorkshire Press Awards.
The Reporter picked up the award for the region's best weekly paper at an awards ceremony at the Ceder Court Hotel in Wakefield last night.

The paper was also highly commended in the Front Page of the Year category for a page one story featuring M
P Shahid Malik.

Editor Hannah Ridgeway said: "This is a fantastic achievement for all those involved with the paper. The Yorkshire Press Awards are extremely competitive and it is very gratifying to be recognised for the work we do.

Reporter Series photographer Diane Allen was highly commended in the Photographer of the Year (Weekly) category, which snapper Jake Oakley was also shortlisted for.

Former Reporter journalist Claire Armstrong, who was recently promoted to news editor of the Batley and Birstall News, was named the News Reporter of the Year for a weekly paper.

Reporter deputy editor Kate Wobschall was short listed for headline writer of the year while Olivia Midgley, a reporter at the Spenborough Guardian was shortlisted for Trainee Journalist of the Year.
