DESWBURY Police are offering advice online about how to avoid becoming a victim of lead theft.
In the past year Dewbsury has become a hotspot for metal thieves who have targeted homes, town centre shops and churches, including Dewsbury Minster and Thornhill Parish Church.

In the latest bid to tackle the crime trend, police have posted a video on the website YouTube featuring Kirklees crime prevention officer Roger Day.

In the video he suggests neighbours work together and look out for each other's property.

He also explains ways people can mark their property to make it more easily identifiable to the police.

He said: "You could try to identify the metals with an indentifying marker or you can create a stencil and use road paint to spray it on. By its very nature road pain clings to whatver it's stuck to and it very bright. If thieves are caught with it it's obviously been taken and the person who's receiving it knows too.

For more details see Friday's Reporter or to watch the video click here.
