PLANNING chiefs have granted outline permission for a new housing development on a busy junction in Westtown, despite the concerns of local residents.
The outline plans are for seven blocks of two-storey apartments next to the Shepherd's Boy pub, in Huddersfield Road. The scale, size and layout of the homes will be decided at a later date.

An original planning application was rejected last year over concerns that there was a lack of information provided about the impact of the development on the local road network.

Kirklees Council received 17 letters of objection from residents, most saying it would have a negative impact on the area and voicing concerns about the increased traffic around Fall Lane.

However, planning officers recommended that these issues were not enough to reject the proposals.

The amended application was approved by councillors at the latest Heavy Woollen planning meeting at Dewsbury Town Hall.

Coun Ann Raistrick said: "This is significantly better than the other refused application, which we were really concerned about."

Applicant Jamie Lawson must now submit a further reserved matters application, which will also need to be approved before work can start.
