A TALENTED young footballer is considering giving up the game after a high-ball clash with a goalie at the weekend.
Top goal scorer Tom Hirst fractured his skull as he tried to head a ball in a match between his Thornhill side and a Spen Valley club on Sunday.

Tom, 16, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance from the pitch at the King George V playing fields at Hightown where his team, Overthorpe Town Reserves, were playing.

A small blood clot on his brain was diagnosed. Thankfully, Tom recovered and was taken home by his relieved mum, Michelle, last Wednesday.
But the injury has given him a scare.

"I have certainly been in the wars," said Tom, an apprentice mechanic who lives in Thornhill.

"I think I will pack it in now, although I have been doing well. It's perhaps too big a risk."

Hightown Liberal Club's goalie Scott Wilson was also injured in the clash, but released from hospital after checks.

The game, which Liversedge were winning 1-0, was abandoned.
