TRANSPLANT patient Bethany Salmon is hoping to compete in a national sporting contest.
Bethany, aged six, wants to take part in next year’s British Transplant Games, which sees post-transplant patients from around the country compete against each other.
Bethany was given a new liver in January this year, but still finds it difficult to walk because liver disease had deprived her of essential nutrients and given her severe rickets.
Despite this, she is determined to take part in the track and field events at next year’s games.
The youngster, of Mountain Road, Thornhill, was inspired after watching this year’s four-day contest with her family in Coventry.
Bethany took part in the opening ceremony as part of Leeds Little Livers, a support group for young transplant patients from St James’ Hospital, Leeds.
Mum Sam said: “We knew quite a few people and made quite a lot of new friends as well. They all walked through town and waved a flag.”
She said Bethany was interviewed by a presenter from BBC Radio Coventry in front of the whole crowd.
Sam said: “Bethany’s definitely got the bug for it. She had a little practice on the track when they were doing the medals.”
