Judges from the Royal Horticultural Society paid a visit to Upper Hopton to judge the village’s entry to the 2012 Yorkshire in Bloom Rose Awards.

Hopton In Bloom has won the Silver Gilt Rose Award two years running.

Chris Breare, from Hopton in Bloom, said “We’ve combined green ornamental grasses with bronze-coloured heucheras, which are both sustainable, and then in summer we’ll add red, white and blue flowering plants to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.”

Chris said the initial feedback from the judges had been encouraging.

She said: “The judges will give us proper feedback along with some suggestions on what we might do differently shortly, then they come back again in July for a second look and we find out in September at the ceremony what we’ve won. It really is a team effort, everyone in the village works together and we couldn’t do it without their help.”
