I AM writing regarding a recent article in the Reporter – 'Botanical gardens and real ale oasis', at the Colonial Club.
Being a keen horticulturalist and evergreen sceptic, I went on to view this modern wonder – 10 out of 10 for effort, a good profusion of tubs, pots, borders, baskets and lots of real ale.

I think it would be an excellent idea for Mirfield Council to resurrect the town in bloomcompetition and perhaps challenge all the other towns and villages in the locality to be judged in a civic competition.

There could be prizes for all manner of growing levels.

I dare say that if the standard at the Old Colonial is a mark to be judged by then the level would be very high.

Come on town council, if Hopton can create a garden walk and the Old Colonial can produce a botanical oasis, I think Mirfield should go for it!
