Hospitals need more funding

I FEEL I must respond to your article 'Mum in labour turned away from hospital' (Reporter, April 25).
I had a baby recently who was in the care of the neo-natal unit at Dewsbury and District hospital for eight and a half weeks. I feel that the article portrayed a very negative image of the unit.
The team which looked after my daughter was very courteous, helpful and very attentive of, both us, and our daughter.
Having a premature birth is a very scary and stressful time, but the nurses and nursery nurses explained everything to us and did all that they could to help.
There are only a limited number of beds and we were fortunate to get one at Dewsbury.
One couple on the unit were transferred from Leeds to Manchester for many weeks, then Halifax and eventually Dewsbury due to a lack of beds.
It is the fault of the funding that is to blame for the lack of beds. It is only when you have a premature baby that you realise how many premature babies there are.
Hospitals should be given more funding so that they can expand these excellent facilities and save people the stress of moving elsewhere.
