Once again we have a community of ‘campers’ settling in the railway car park - paying nil and inconveniencing the paying public who work in surrounding towns, and it is left to the hard working public to meet the costs.
I read with interest Dr Matt Shepherd’s reply to Dr Thimmegowda’s letter highlighting the Nicholls report which condemns the closure of local hospitals and/or their services which then necessitates extra transport times to larger regional centres.
As clinicians we rarely want to enter into debate with colleagues in the pages of the media. However, we are concerned that the details contained in Dr Thimmegowda’s letter are misleading and may cause unnecessary alarm for local people.1 comment
The Mid Yorkshire Health Authority’s spin, supported by Miss Fishwick, consultant gynaecologist, in the Dewsbury Reporter, May 11, for changes in women’s and children’s services is yet again astonishing to say the least.1 comment
I am usually a Conservative voter I am also on the committee of Save Local Hospital Services, it does not stop me whoever joins our group.
Kirklees Council’s interest in becoming part of a Combined Authority for West Yorkshire and beyond is an important step towards addressing traffic congestion at Cooper Bridge and in Ravensthorpe.
May I congratulate Stephen Eames and the management team running Dewsbury Hospital on the improved appointment system which I experienced for the first time recently.
It appears that the chair of North Kirklees CCG, Dr David Kelly, cares little for the NHS as an institution.
I am Cyril Stansfield, currently living in Batley, but I was born and brought up in Mirfield.
I wanted to express our sincere thanks to Dewsbury MP, Simon Reevell, in arranging for the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, to meet both Chidswell and other Kirklees residents groups in his constituency to take onboard our views on the proposed Kirklees Local Development Framework.
On Thursday, April 25, I along with other local residents and protest group leaders met with Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, to put forward our objections to the Local Development Framework (LDF) which has been submitted to him for approval by Kirklees Council.
Given the government’s hostility to council house tenants and anyone claiming benefits, it is hardly surprising only a few people have bothered contacting Dewsbury’s Tory MP Simon Reevell regarding the Bedroom Tax (Reporter, April 26).
Several people have asked how my book Dewsbury in Food and Photos fared in the recent World Cookbook Awards in Paris.
Although I have no political axe to grind, I gladly joined the demo last Saturday protesting about the NHS changes.
I write this letter because of the wonderful effort of a group of people who came together to help a young women with the purchase of equipment to increase her mobility and independence.

The more I look at the proposed changes at Dewsbury Hospital the more concerned I feel for the future existence of the National Health Service.1 comment
I read with considerable disquiet, the article in the Reporter, April 5, concerning the proposed development of many hundreds of houses at Chidswell, Shaw Cross.1 comment
Right now, even as huge changes to the NHS ‘go live’ this month, the government is trying to force through new legal regulations to open up all of North Kirklees’s health services to the private sector.1 comment
The local council of churches, and inter-faith council, has a lot that is interesting.
